For the last few years we have done a long and wonderful vacation to San Diego with my parents, but this year with baby girl coming we decided to stick to something smaller and cheaper and closer to home. So we stayed in Texas and went to the Hill Country and stayed at The Horseshoe Bay Resort on Lake LBJ. It was a really great place and a perfect spot for all sorts of families. We got a 2 bedroom condo with a kitchen, so luckily we were able to eat pretty much all of our meals on our own. Because really, it's not that fun taking a bunch of kids out to eat after swimming all day right? Our kids were wiped out every night by 7:30 or 8:00. We had planned to let them stay up so we could play games or other fun things but they pretty much begged to go to bed every night. The last day we made everyone take a nap so they could handle staying up late so we could have some fun family time.
They have a lot of beautiful birds around the property and on Saturday mornings (which was our first morning) they had a little show to teach the kids about the different birds. Our girls favorite part was the bird that kept saying "hello" to them. They cracked up over and over and all week long called him "friend".
The property was so beautiful so I had lots of fun that first morning snapping some pictures although we didn't really do our hair or plan for pictures. Still cute though!
Daddy and Aubrey playing a large game of checkers.
Landon loved splashing in the little pool and all the fountains. He entertained himself trying to catch water in his bucket for a long time!
We also spent a little bit of time at their beach, just one morning really, but they all had fun and it was something different. I think next time we'll spend more time down there. It was pretty and we always enjoy watching all the boats.
Don't you love how green the water is in the kid section of the lake? Yikes! Not quite San Diego but we'll take it.
On another morning they brought out their large tortoise. We got to "pet" it, learn a little about him and watch him walk around. Landon and Aubrey thought it was pretty neat, but the other two had more fun running around and talking to our "friend" bird.
Not too interested in the tortoise but she had fun running around anyway.
On our last night we went around the property and took some family pictures, but we didn't get out the door soon enough and there wasn't much sunlight left. We got a few good ones in, and then we went out for dessert afterwards. They were all excited to get to stay up late!
And then off to dessert!
Just like that vacation was over. However we made one stop on the way home to Blue Bell Cremery for a tour. It was a fun stop and a sweet end to our family time!
