New and Old Christmas Traditions

We have had such a fun December around here. We decided to set the curriculum aside for a few weeks and really focus on learning about Christmas. We started a new advent this year, and used a lot of ideas from Truth in Tinsel. Every day we chose a new envelope to pull a new activity and each activity had a new lesson and/or craft to do that went along with the Christmas story. It has been so great and we have all really loved it. We also did Jesse Tree again and opened a new or an old Christmas book each night. Every day we tried to focus our activities around Christ and just celebrating Jesus's birth. It didn't always work out perfectly, in fact the last few days have been impossible to squeeze anything in, but we tried our best and I think we found some new traditions that we each fell in love with this year. Here are a few of the fun things we did.

Here is our Advent Calendar, a few days in.

Our first night of Jesse Tree. We also made an ornament to represent Jesus, the Light of the World.

We made crown ornaments also, to show that Jesus was born to be the King of Kings.
We made an angel and talked about the angel Gabrielle appearing to Mary and Joseph.

We painted these cute Christmas Trees. I will have to share the finished product later.

We had a Polar Express family movie night. They loved this, and we surprised them last minute with this one.

This was another favorite. I surprised the girls with a little ornament exchange party with a few of their friends. They exchanged ornaments, made a few crafts, we read some books, they ate lunch, and they ran around and giggled a bunch. They were all so cute.

We made ornaments to put our pictures in, and we made another craft talking about the name of Jesus. We spent the morning talking about how special they each are, and that Daddy and I picked out the perfect name for them. God gave Jesus the name above all names, the most powerful name.

We had another fun family night and took the girls to go see Frozen. What a fun night that was and such a cute movie. It was Avery's first movie, and our sweet friends kept Landon for us.

Another fun family night was going to look at Christmas lights. There is a house down the street from us, that have such a great train track set up for the kids. It's a pretty spectacular house of lights.

Christmas cookie day! Wow, they got into it this year. Especially Aubrey. She didn't want any help. And yet again, we made a gigantic mess, but wonderful memories with my girlies. It will definitely be interesting next year with another two year old in the mix.

On to the decorating!

We have definitely made some fun memories and we are looking forward to making more as we approach Christmas day!

Getting Prepared for the Christmas Season

I truly love this time of year. I love that we are a little more relaxed around here, I love getting extra family time, I love making crafts with my little girls, but I truly love celebrating the coming of Jesus and teaching my children about their Savior and leading them to Him. It's just been fun around here. Last weekend it all began with decorating the tree. It actually seemed a little less chaotic this year which was surprising. Landon actually has not messed with it all. Another surprise over here!

We started our traditional Christmas decorating party with new Christmas pj's. I decided to snap a picture right away incase anyone ended having to go to bed before the party was over! Ha! You never know around here.
Hanging our first ornaments.

Look at these boys of mine!!!
We had to take a break for cookies and snacks!

Here is a little glimpse into the teenage years. We already have too much attitude going on over here! I c an't remember what I asked her to do, but it wasn't anything major. Probably to wait her turn...

Finally all the ornaments are up! Now for the rest of my house... not even close!
Just because this girl is full of personality, but she still doesn't show it to many people. She is hilarious. On Thanksgiving morning we were watching The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, and when she saw Santa and Mrs. Clause she said "Oh, it's Santa and his mother.". Last night Aubrey asked her what she wanted for Christmas and her very serious response was "oh, just a lot of money." What?!?! Seriously she is just full of funny stuff all day.
